Impact

PureTerra Venture believes value creation can go well beyond our projected positive financial returns. The ambition of PureTerra Ventures is to deliver on our sustainable investment objectives defined through our Water Impact Framework.

We believe that an impact-driven approach to investments in innovative water technologies is central to solving the ever-increasing global water challenges. To drive and monitor this value creation PureTerra Ventures subscribes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and integrates sound Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles throughout its investment process.

SDG Alignment

In 2015, countries of the United Nations adopted the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These SDGs are a universal call for action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

At PureTerra we are committed to investing in technologies and entrepreneurs that create scalable solutions ensuring access to clean water for all and contributing to achieving SDGs. We believe incorporating these SDGs is essential to achieve water sustainability at a global level and that our portfolio companies must create measurable contributions. Considering the nature of PureTerra Ventures investment strategy, our impact objectives will mostly be directly related to SDG 6.

ESG Policy

In concert with the inherent SDG impact of our investments, PureTerra also drives sustainability through the implementation of a clear PureTerra RI_ESG Policy. ESG factors impact the environment in which we invest and thus our core business. As part of the PureTerra investment strategy, responsible investment is not only the right thing to do, but allows effective management of ESG risks and provides opportunity to create value throughout the supply chain. To this end, PureTerra defined five ESG objectives in line with PureTerra and our portfolio company’s strategies and values.

These ESG objectives guide the ESG policy of our portfolio companies and our own organization. The objectives are included in both the pre-investment phase (selection and due diligence) and the post-investment phase (monitoring).

PureTerra’s Impact

PureTerra Ventures has a clear separation between our approach to ESG and our measurable sustainable investment (or ‘impact’) objective captured through our Water Impact Framework. ESG is fundamentally an inward looking approach where we look to improve the processes and performance within a company to create value and mitigate risk. Impact on the other hand is how a company’s product or service offering has a direct positive effect on society.
